Ward Leader

Job overview

We are looking for an existing or aspiring Ward Leader to lead and manage our acute care of the Elderly ward specializing in high quality dementia care.

You will lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver excellent clinical and emotional care to support the ward’s inpatients, whilst taking overall clinical and managerial responsibility for the Ward. You will be supported by a Clinical Matron linked directly to the Ward. This role requires you to be flexible, resilient, and forward thinking.

This role is full time - 37.5 hours per week (days, nights, bank holidays & weekends). Fixed Term / Secondment for 12 months.

Main duties of the job

Requirements of this role include;

Proven experience in managing a care delivery team (ideally a multi-professional team).

A commitment to the highest standards of clinical care, supporting older people in the acute hospital.

The ability to work well under pressure in a complex changing and sometimes challenging environment.

Excellent organisational and time management skills, being able to prioritise demanding workloads to meet deadlines.

A willingness to work in ward staffing numbers to support clinical practice, and safe staffing as appropriate.

Experience of working in the specialty of dementia and care of the older person, would be a significant advantage. Flexibility is essential to ensure senior cover of this busy ward environment 24 hours a day.

Person specification

Qualifications & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant professional/clinical qualification (RN and/or RM /or HCPC)
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience
  • Effective leadership skills and an understanding of leadership and change management practice
  • Evidence of having developed team working skills and implemented team working practices - this includes the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve all team members
  • Track record of effectively handling competing priorities, meeting challenging deadlines and delivering under pressure.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working at a senior Band 6/7 level
  • Possession of relevant mentorship/education /teaching certification Possession of specialist post registration certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of experience within operational management in an acute hospital setting
  • Evidence of experience within the relevant specialist / service

experience in HCOP

Essential criteria
  • experience in caring for patients with dementia and delirium
