Job overview

 You will be required to work in all areas of the department including clinics, Minor Oral Surgery,   theatres and recovery, caring for patients undergoing both GA and LA procedures.   (This will include  airway management and providing a safe nurse led discharge.)

Main duties of the job

 

 

To work as a skilled member of the nursing team, within the specialities of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to provide a high standard of compassionate patient centred care.

 

To lead and supervise the work of other qualified and unqualified staff within the team.

 

To promote a welcoming, caring, and safe environment for the patients.

To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.

To be able to take charge of the department in the absence of senior nursing staff, as deemed appropriate by the Department Sister or Clinical Matron.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide the highest standard of evidence based / research informed nursing care for  all patients.

To plan, assess, implement, and evaluate programmes of care.

To maintain a compassionate, caring, and safe environment for all.

To act as an advocate for the children, young people, adults, those with special needs and their families, providing them with information and support and directing them to the  relevant support services where appropriate.

Peri-operative preparation and the care children, young people, adults, and those with        special needs who are undergoing treatment.

To develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide research informed, evidence-based nursing care. This includes expanded role responsibilities, following appropriate competency-based training.

To be competent and compliant in the administration of medicines in line with Trust policy.

To use electronic patient systems i.e., PAS in accordance with Trust policy and procedure.

To assist in the ongoing health education, training, and health promotion of families.

Providing a safe nurse led discharge through 1st and 2nd stage recovery, to the community or ward as appropriate, referring to senior staff as required.
