Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join CIU. This will be with a 2 year training programme with CSR group to undertake a level 2 training course, whilst working in CIU. 20% of the role will be for study and off the job learning.
The course is designed for all Healthcare Science Assistants as an induction to the role. There are further courses, level 4 in both cardio/resp or separated and degree level 6 courses in either Cardio or Resp Physiology and Masters.
This qualification combines both competence and knowledge
aspects and is designed to give learners the practical competencies,
technical skills and sector related knowledge that they need to be
able to carry out a job effectively. It is based on National Occupational
Standards designed by Healthcare employers. The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Introduction to Healthcare Science is for learners who work as Healthcare Science Assistants and want to have their knowledge and skills formally recognised.
The qualification gives learners the opportunity to:
• develop knowledge related to the healthcare science environment
and the roles and responsibilities of those who work in this environment
• develop skills related to the healthcare science environment
• develop effective study skills, including the use of reflective practice
• achieve a nationally-recognised Level 2 qualification
• develop personal growth and engagement in learning
Main duties of the job
To work effectively and efficiently as part of a team within Clinical Investigations Unit (CIU), ensuring a high-quality service is provided to patients attending the department.
Perform 12 lead ECG in a variety of clinical settings. Work alongside other colleagues, clinicians, the patient and their relatives.
To undertake study and off the job learning as part of the BTEC level 2 qualification in Healthcare Science and obtain and maintain professional certification in ECG (SCST Certificate in Electrocardiography).
To assist in the professional and operational delivery of the service within CIU, including shared allocation of work and training of other staff.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
