Are you a passionate and dedicated nurse? Are you looking for a challenging career move where you can make a difference? Then you might want to consider joining our exceptional team! A rare opportunity has arisen and we are looking to recruit registered nurses with an interest in Neonatal care.

This is a training post and pay will be in line with Annex 21 terms and conditions. Band 6 agenda for change rate payable, subject to successful completion of required training programme and competencies.

Neonatal Services at UHMBT are provided from both Furness General Hospital and Royal Lancaster Infirmary sites and are part of the North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network.

The Special Care Baby Unit at Furness General Hospital is integrated into the South Lakes Birth Centre and has a cot capacity of 4. We provide care to babies and their families from 32 weeks gestation but also provide stabilisation for critically ill babies/babies born below 32 weeks in preparation for transfer by the regional transport team.

The post holder:

Post- registration experience is essential. Experience of working within in a higher level care setting is desirable. 

Upon completion of required training and competencies, successful candidates will lead/coordinate shifts, in accordance with band 6 neonatal nurse job description, be able to work well independently and within the team and support junior staff as well as pre-registration student nurses.

There are opportunities for you to undertake a quality role in an area of interest and participate in network specialist interest groups, which will both enhance your own professional development and improve care for babies and families. We promote UNICEF baby friendly standards and family integrated care and are working towards accreditation in both areas.

The Neonatal teams work closely alongside the Maternity and Paediatric teams.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
