Health Safety & Security Adviser Band 5 22.5 hours CIC 

An opportunity has arisen due to promotion of the post holder to join a small  dynamic  Health & Safety team.  The role will provide a good introduction to Health & Safety within a healthcare setting with opportunities for embedding good practice, training & education, audit and investigation.  The Trust delivers IOSH training internally.  The post holder will be based at the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle  but is expected to visit sites across North Cumbria,

Main duties of the job

The Post holder will assist and support the Lead Health & Safety Advisers/Local Security Management Specialist by co-ordinating and implementing activities to enable the Trust to meet its responsibilities for health and safety, and security management.

Post holders will provide professional advice on all Health Safety and Security issues, and will support Divisional Managers and other Senior Managers in implementing health and safety, security management activities within their service areas.  

The post holders will be accredited in Security Management or have some recent experience.

A key aspect of the role will be to develop close working relationships with clinicians, managers and other staff throughout the organisation to develop a robust system of health, safety, and security.  The post holder will also lead the promotion of improvements in health, safety and security practice and facilitate when required specific health and safety and security initiatives and programmes.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding adults and children therefore if the post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended) the successful candidate(s) will be subject to a criminal records check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety &/or Construction Health and Safety &/or Health and Wellbeing at Work…….
  • Certificate in Security Management (BTEC Level 3)/ Accredited Local Security Management Specialist qualification
  • Membership of a recognised professional Safety organisation to at least Technician Level
  • Detailed knowledge of safety risk management techniques
Desirable criteria
  • NEBOSH National Diploma / Working towards
  • Diploma in Security Management (BTEC Level 5)
  • Corporate membership of a professional Safety/Risk organisation
  • Relevant additional specialist H&S or Fire related qualifications and/or training (i.e. NEBOSH or IOSH Specialist Certificates)
  • Detailed training and knowledge of Hospital fire safety including Fire Safety HTM’s.
  • Further Education Teaching or recognised training qualification

Knowledge & Experience

  • Thorough knowledge and experience of Safety: • Risk assessment processes
