Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen and we are seeking to appoint additional  Band 5 Registered Nurses to work alongside our current Cardiac Centre Team at Westmorland General Hospital . Two 30 hours per week posts are available.

The Morecambe Bay Cardiac Centre (MBCC) is a 7-bedded day case unit based at Westmorland General Hospital. We are a small, friendly team who provide diagnostic coronary angiography, permanent pacemaker implantation, dobutamine stress echocardiography and other diagnostic tests.

We receive inpatient transfers from RLI and FGH for urgent PPM implantation and urgent diagnostic tests. We also provide specialised nurse-led services such as the DC cardioversion and Implantable Loop Recorder services.

Candidates will ideally have relevant cath lab or cardiology experience, however this is not essential as an internal teaching and training programme is provided. Successful applicants will be expected to have completed or be prepared to undertake the ALS (Advanced Life Support) course.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will assess, plan and deliver safe nursing care to patients who are undergoing a variety of cardiac procedures and investigations.

Desirable skills will include Advanced Life Support / Immediate Life Support, IV cannulation and ECG interpretation skills.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
