Job overview

This role spans two important, but linked areas: Community Fundraising and Volunteer Coordinator.
You will play a pivotal role with the delivery and development of Bay Hospitals Charity's internal and community fundraising.
You will promote, motivate and facilitate supporters to maximise the funds raised including the development of new and imaginative fundraising activities, many of which will involve organising events.
You will inspire new supporters to raise money, while maintaining and developing relationships with existing supporters for the benefit of the Trust.
You will work with internal staff building up a strong charity presence across the Trust.
You will assist colleagues with the design and development of annual internal and external fundraising plans providing help and advice to Trust colleagues to maximise opportunities for fundraising. You will meet agreed annual income and performance targets.
You will be responsible for the coordination of Charity Volunteers and Charity Champions across the Trust, with a specific focus on raising funds for services within the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust either within South Lakes or North
Lancashire area.

Main duties of the job

1. To engage with individuals, community and voluntary groups (such as Rotary, schools and other community groups) and raise awareness of the work of the charity across South Lakes and North Lancashire using persuasive, influencing and negotiating skills, with the aim of securing financial and “in kind” support.
2. Responsible for communicating and approaching, involving talking and presenting to individuals, schools, universities, local authorities, shops and commercial organisations, raising awareness of the charity to encourage and influence opportunities for sponsorship and donations.
3. Represent the Charity at various fundraising events and cheque presentations, including evening and weekends as appropriate, always acting in a professional manner
4. Establish and maintain excellent relationships with potential and existing supporters and volunteers in line with the Charity Fundraising Strategy.
5. Develop relationships with local companies to generate support locally.
6. Motivate individuals, groups, and community organisations to fundraise on behalf of Trust charities and act as ambassadors for the charities

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay. 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Responsible for, leading, design, planning, organisation and delivery of internal and community fundraising events and activities, ensuring that these are costed, risk assessed if required, well-planned, marketed and generate income for the charity. These will vary in
size and complexity depending on the size of the event and the number of agencies/organisations/supporters involved.
2. Monitor and research other local charities environment across South Lakes, Furness, Lancaster and Morecambe, staying abreast of competitors’, partners’ events and activity to ensure effective positioning and marketing of events and avoid conflict of interest reporting to the Charity Team.
3. Create a visible presence within the community, establishing good relationships with local groups and effective use and promotion of the Charity online fundraising page.
4. Nurture relationships with UHMBT staff to encourage the creation of and participation in fundraising activities and events with internal staff building up a visible and pro- active charity presence across the Trust.
5. Assist UHMBT colleagues with the design and development of annual internal and external fundraising plans providing advice to maximise opportunities for fundraising.

Person specification

Experience, good communication skills, ability to inspire and motivate, supportive and caring.

Essential criteria
  • Experience of planning, coordinating, and delivering public facing events to a high standard
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 ECDL or equivalent
  • Experience in dealing with external partners and other stakeholders in confident, polite and assertive manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate with donors and staff
  • Ability to travel as required
Desirable criteria
  • Introduction to Fundraising Certificate
  • Knowledge of fundraising law & GDPR
  • Previous experience of fundraising CRM systems, e.g. Harlequin
  • Familiarity with NHS fundraising or healthcare sector
