Job overview
An exciting opportunity has become available within the Surgery and Critical Care Group for a Breast Oncoplastic Fellow. This post will be a 12/12 fixed term contract and will be based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. Clinical sessions within the job plan will be on all three sites so travel time will be built within the job plan.
There is no on-call commitment but the postholder may be approached for advice on emergency patients and should support the General Surgeons with the management of these.
Post-operatively the post holder should be available for contact by the ward in case of complications and should liaise with the General Surgery on-call team when necessary to facilitate patient care.
The post holder will undertake an equivalent to 10PA job plan (40 hrs PW)
The post holder will be supported by the Breast Clinical Team which includes 4 Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeons, 3 Middle Grade Doctors, including deanery trainees with ward support from FY doctors and nurse practitioners.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will rotate between 4 consultants spending allocated time with each team but flexibility will be allowed to maximise training opportunities.
· The post holder may be asked to undertake occasional new patient and routine follow up clinics but the majority of work will be in consultant clinics planning management and in theatres.
· The post holder will be expected to attend and present at the multidisciplinary meetings and to organise and present an oncoplastic MDT.
· There will be opportunities to teach medical students and to train junior doctors.
· The post holder will be expected to undertake and present an appropriate audit and will be supported in pursuing any clinical research they wish to pursue

Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Experience
Essential criteria
- 2 years minimum experience in NHS breast unit.
- Experience in assessing breast patients and in breast cancer resection.
Desirable criteria
- Experience working with patients on a screening pathway
Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Higher qualifications in Breast Surgery.
- Attendance at specialist breast surgery courses and conferences.
Skills, ability and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of breast cancer diagnosis and surgical management in the UK.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of audit or research in breast cancer/surgery.
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Commitment to teaching and training medical students and junior doctors.
