NHS AfC: Band 6

''Creating a great place to be cared for and a great place to work''

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay has a firm commitment to strengthening the diversity of our workforce, and therefore welcome and encourage applications from likeminded people who can support our ambition to become effortlessly inclusive. We are particularly keen to hear from protected groups – including BAME, LGBT+ and people with a disability.

Job overview

An exciting vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-motivated Paediatric Dietitian to join our team of dietitians within the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay.

We would also consider applications from newly qualified Dietitians, offering a bespoke development programme to progress to band 6 on completion

The successful applicant will work alongside an experienced multi-disciplinary team of Paediatricians, Nurses, Dietitians and Therapists who are responsible for providing a service across social and health care boundaries.

Applicants should be HCPC registered dietitians. The post is based at Lancaster Royal Infirmary and will require you to travel to other sites and clinic locations.

Main duties of the job

The post will cover both inpatient and outpatient paediatric work and you will gain experience in a wide range of clinical areas including nutrition support, enteral feeding, gastroenterology, food allergies and feeding problems.

The department is approved for training student dietitians. You will also provide support to junior and support staff within the wider Dietetic team. You will use your knowledge and skills to support the learning and development of MDT colleagues and contribute towards updating protocols and resources. We have excellent IT facilities and are committed to personal development.

The ideal candidate will have had previous experience working in paediatrics but we will also consider individuals with adult experience wanting to transition to paediatrics.  You may be working as an experienced band 5 and looking for an opportunity to progress in this speciality. We can support you to develop into this role.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals, Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

RLI and FGH have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
