We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individuals to join our physiotherapy team. This is a rotational role that will involve working at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Queen Victoria Centre in Morecambe and Moor Lane Mills within our community team. Working as a bank Band 5 Physiotherapist you will have the opportunity work across a variety of clinical areas across inpatients and outpatients and community. These areas include orthopaedics, medicine, stroke, elderly rehab, Surgery, MSK outpatients, supported discharge and general community. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills with support from experienced Specialist and Advanced Physiotherapists. As experience is gained you will work to support our weekend and on-call service at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, this is on a rota basis.
The band 5 rotations are currently 4 months long.
We would like to encourage newly qualified physiotherapists to apply including those yet to receive their HCPC registration.
Due to the format of the interview all shortlisted candidates will be required to attend the assessment centre in person.
Main duties of the job
This is a clinical, patient facing role where you will be involved in providing clinical input for a caseload of patients, supporting discharge and patient flow as part of the MDT.
You will have responsibility for independently managing a patient caseload, providing of assessment and treatment as appropriate.
We work as a multi-disciplinary team and you will have the opportunity to contribute to service improvement, helping to develop and improve clinical pathways of care for our patients.
As a Trust we actively support you to develop your knowledge and skills via our Annual Development Review programme and you will have the opportunity to learn from a team of experienced Specialist and Advanced Physiotherapists. We offer a clinical and managerial in-service training programme and a monthly Band 5 Physiotherapy Peer Support group.
We have a student programme and there will be opportunities to contribute to the clinical education of students within our team.
You will also have the opportunity to develop leadership skills working with, our technical instructor staff and providing training for them.

Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
- Health and Care Professions Council registered Physiotherapist
- Honours Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy approved by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy/ Health Professions Council
Desirable criteria
- Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
Experience
Essential criteria
- Comprehensive experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level of the core clinical areas within physiotherapy for example: Musculo-skeletal, neurology, orthopaedics and cardio- respiratory care.
- Evidence of effective written and oral communication skills in English in a variety of settings.
- To be able to demonstrate commitment to independent learning and continued professional development
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a team
- To demonstrate experience of patient management including prioritisation, assessment, treatment and discharge planning.
Skills, ability and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Must be able to demonstrate the confidence to take independent action within scope of practice.
- To have a clear understanding of the role and duties of a Physiotherapist.
- To demonstrate an understanding of professional standards and expectations.
Desirable criteria
- Must be able to demonstrate basic awareness of current NHS issues.
- To have a knowledge of audit tools and awareness of organisational and clinical standards in Physiotherapy
- To evidence experience of sharing learning with others including teaching and training
