Job overview
The Urology unit is looking for caring, compassionate and motivated individual to join our team of Consultants, Doctors, Nurses and admin staff. We have the privilege of providing care for a variety of patients, and work closely as a team across the bay, to ensure all patients receive exceptional care. We welcome all applicants who feel they have the right attributes to enhance the team and contribute positively towards the Urology department, as well as being a keen team player.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role are assisting in the smooth running of Urology out-patient clinics and supporting patients in their outpatient pathway.
New staff must be willing to learn new skills and ways of working to enhance their own development and benefit the department.
This role will require the ability to communicate and empathise with people living with Urological conditions. A successful candidate would need the ability to be considerate and compassionate in sensitive situations.

- Assisting in the smooth running of out-patient clinics
- Communication and emotional support of the patient
- Supporting a one stop clinic by navigating the patients through tests and procedures.
- Supporting Consultants and Doctors with their independent clinics.
- Carrying out a flow test for a patient (with training)
- Maintaining a safe, clean and healthy working environment
- Accurate documentation and communication
- Utilising trust and unit specific IT systems
- Performing clinical skills with suitable training, such as assisting a flexible cystoscopy list, taking bloods and support urodynamics studies.
- Clerical and organisational skills
- Serving patient drinks
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of care and related procedures
- Experience with manual handling of patients, using lifting aids
- Experience of completing patient care records
Desirable criteria
- Experience and involvement of an improvement project/s
- Experience of holding an area of responsibility relating to training/audit
Skills
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of personal care and related procedures
- Able to accurately update patient records for care delivered including changes to patient conditi
- Ability to carry out routine duties acting on own initiative with limited supervision
- Understands confidentiality
Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Completion of the NHS Care Certificate or equivalent relevant experience to vocational qualification level 3 oOr willing to complete the care certificate within the first 3 months of employment
Desirable criteria
- Experience in health care setting
- Phlebotomy
- IT training/competence
