Job overview

EAU & Ward 6 Ward Clerk,  working 36 hours per week, 12 hour shifts, days & nights. This is a permanent position working in a Band 2 role.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become a full time, permanent Ward Clerk on EAU, SDEC and Ward 6 in West Cumberland Hospital.  We are looking for a highly motivated, competent and professional Ward Clerk to work within our fast paced ward on EAU & Ward 6, West Cumberland Hospital. This is a permanent  position working 36 hours per week.

As Ward Clerk you will act as the focal point for the admission ward area  and their team, confidentiality being the key issue at all times. You will provide a high standard of administration support to the Ward Manager, medical staff and their team, interacting with other departments, patients and their visitors

Main duties of the job

Undertake general clerical duties in the clinical area including completing records, filing, photocopying/scanning, handling mail and filing in case notes.

Provide an accurate account of bed management e.g. admissions, transfers and discharges.

Answer the telephone, relaying any relevant messages when required.

Book any appointments needed for patients and ensure the patients are informed of times and dates.

Assisting the nurse in charge with the smooth flow and running of the unit.

Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:               

  • youth cautions, reprimands and final warnings will no longer be subject to automatic disclosure

Please note the cost of the DBS check is increasing from 2nd December and the new cost will be

Standard DBS check £21.50, Enhanced DBS check £49.50 + any admin costs.

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

 

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.
