Band 2 Occupational Therapy Assistant - Permanent Post - 20 hours per week 

We are looking for a friendly and motivated individual to join our Occupational Therapy team at the West Cumberland Hospital as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. 

Main duties of the job

To work under the direction of the Occupational Therapist and complete delegated duties. Supervise patients in activities relating to their treatment programme and feedback to the Occupational Therapist. Apply patient centred principles in all clinical areas.

The service is part of a strong Occupational Therapy network, with links to the team at the  Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle,  as well as the wider health and social care settings across North Cumbria. This provides many professional development opportunities and there is a strong focus on CPD within the team. You will have access to high quality, regular clinical supervision, and we offer an excellent induction, ongoing professional support and a highly rewarding job to the successful applicant.

Disclosure and Barring Service:

The Trust is committed to safeguarding adults and children therefore if the post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended) the successful candidate(s) will be subject to a criminal records check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English and maths or equivalent.
  • Care Certificate or the willingness and ability to undertake (applicable for all non-registered support workers that provide health care)
Desirable criteria
  • Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent.
  • Care Certificate or the willingness to undertake QCF II (health) or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Paid or voluntary employment in Health/ Social Care settings
  • Paid or voluntary experience in supporting individuals with activities of daily living, eg personal care

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the role of an occupational therapist in an acute hospital setting.
  • Professional conduct requirements.
  • Health & safety; risk awareness.
Desirable criteria
  • Physical and cognitive disability and its impact on lifestyle.
