What is the Volunteer to Career (VtC) programme?
The Volunteer to Career (VtC) programme is brand new to the Trust. It's an excellent way for people who would like to work for NHS gain relevant experience and skills, complete online training and volunteer for a minimum of 60 hours (approx. 3 hours per week) and on successful completion of the programme will be interviewed (if desired) to join our bank register as a Casual Admin Assistant. 

Who is eligible to apply for the VtC programme?
The VtC programme is open to anyone who is interested in a career within the NHS.  Volunteers who would like to volunteer in our administration offices should be able to commit for at least 60 hours for a minimum of 3 months, be over 16 years old, have the right to work in the UK, and be ready to go through recruitment checks. The VtC programme is designed to provide volunteers with the right support and resources to help them succeed and find employment within the NHS.

What is the purpose of this role?
The main purpose of this role is to provide administrative support to the necessary department. Under the guidance of the Volunteer lead, the volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks including filing, processing forms, answering queries via email and telephone etc.

Main duties of the job

What tasks can this role include?

General administration, which may include:

  • Welcoming visitors and helping with general enquiries
  • Liaising with depts./staff/other organisations
  • Filing of notes/papers
  • Photocopying and scanning
  • Opening mail
  • Answering telephone enquiries (internal & external) & making calls
  • Helping staff and visitors access appropriate resources within the department
  • Assist in training of other volunteers/students if applicable.
  • Promote good communication skills through personal development and commitment to provide the highest level of service possible, protecting confidentiality of patient information.
  • Other administration tasks relevant to the individual dept following instruction/training

Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:

  • youth cautions, reprimands and final warnings will no longer be subject to automatic disclosure

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
