Ambulance Care Assistant 1 - Cardiff & Vale

Band 3

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to become a member of the Welsh Ambulance Service Non-Emergency Patient Transport team delivering non-emergency patient transport at locations in the Cardiff & Vale health board area.

There are a number of vacancies in Pentwyn Station although you may be required to operate out of other stations as required.

We are looking for candidates that can deliver a high standard of professionalism and compassion when providing a transport service to meet the needs of patients and other service users. Although no formal qualifications are specified for this role, we would expect candidates to be able to demonstrate a reasonable standard of education and personal responsibility and have evidence of delivering excellent customer care. This can be a demanding job on occasion but the rewards in terms of satisfaction and personal achievement are without comparison.

Please be aware, this is a physically demanding role that involves some heavy lifting and handling in difficult and complex scenarios.

Shortlisted candidates will need to attend a theoretical and practical driving assessment and if successful will be invited to a formal interview.

Driving Assessments / Interviews: to be advised

Course start date   30.06.2025 - Pentwyn (South Wales)

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to drive an equipped NEPTS ambulance or other vehicle as necessary, and carry out non-urgent and non-critical, planned patient journeys usually working with a colleague but sometimes working alone when dealing with patients who can walk unaided or with minimum assistance.

The post holder deals with a variety of patients and conditions, most of whom will require different levels of assistance, lifting or carrying to transfer to and from the Trust vehicle. The post holder transports patients safely between their place of residence and designated treatment centres and clinics, provides where necessary appropriate care and assistance which is within the post holder’s level of training and competence, and adheres to the Trust Code of Conduct and Standards of Professional behaviour, Service Instructions and the Trust’s Standing Procedures and Policies.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
