Job overview

An exciting & varied opportunity has arisen within Specialist Medicine Business Unit 2, at Queen's Hospital Burton site, for a person looking for development as a Support Medical Secretary to work 3  days a week.  The successful candidate will be based in an office sharing with x2 consultants working 8hrs 45 minute days with a 30minute break,  Monday to Wednesday i.e 08:15 to 16:00 (with a 30 min break), albeit, we can be flexible with a start and finish time between the hours of 08:00 & 17:00 ensuring you are supported with you training.  

Main duties of the job

You will need to be an enthusiastic and motivated team player with excellent communication and organisational skills. You will also have the ability to prioritise your own workload effectively and have a willingness to learn.

The successful applicant will develop/have a broad range of administrative skills and in particular:

  • Typing ability or qualification/experience - audio typing training available
  • Standard level of IT literacy
  • NVQ level II Customer Service or equivalent knowledge and skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of secretarial or administrative procedures
  • Good communication & relationship skills are essential both face to face and via telephone
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Digital Dictation and Lorenzo would be advantageous, although training will be provided.
  • Apprenticeship Opportunity to support on the job learning is also available

  • A good standard of English to O level/GCSE (A-C grade) or equivalent
