Job overview

“Over the past 15 months I have worked with some of the most amazing young people.  This has given me an enormous sense of achievement as a nurse.  Watching them grow in confidence and reach their potential has been very rewarding and I urge anyone thinking about changing or progressing their career to give it a try”

Debbie – Core CAMHS worker

Have you ever thought about working in CAMHS but are unsure if you have the right skills? Are you passionate about mental health and working with young people and families? If you are a qualified healthcare professional, social worker or accredited therapist with mental health experience then we want to hear from you. We recognise that people often have transferable skills, even if they don’t meet all of the criteria in the job description!

We believe in investing in our staff, and alongside opportunities to train at a postgraduate level via the young person’s IAPT scheme, we have a regular programme of on the job training and a comprehensive supervision offer that will help you to develop in your role. We hope to give you the opportunity to build on your existing skills, to be yourself, and to thrive in a forward-thinking and dynamic CAMHS Team.

You will hold a professional qualification and be registered with a  regulating organisation.

Main duties of the job

It is an exciting time for the service as we grow and expand our offer to the young people and families of North Derbyshire. As a core CAMHS worker you will liaise with a variety of professionals both within our own service and externally. We pride ourselves on our multi-disciplinary approach, and you will become a key member of our specialist team. You will be working in a supportive and friendly environment with professionals from a variety of clinical backgrounds. You will receive regular clinical supervision, as well the chance to consult with clinicians from our various pathways in order to help us deliver the best service we can.

As a Community CAMHS Mental Health Worker you will be responsible for managing a caseload of complex young people with moderate to severe mental health disorders. You will carry out routine assessments, help young people to develop collaborative care and risk management plans, and offer first level therapeutic interventions. You will offer screening for neurodevelopmental issues and make appropriate internal referrals in order to best support the young people we work with. The service offers a wide range of structured interventions such as CBT, systemic family therapy, DBT, IPT, and Positive Behaviour Support, and there are regular opportunities to develop your own skills further by completing training both internally and externally.

Working for our organisation

Buxton CAMHS is part of Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Our vision is to be a first-class provider of sustainable healthcare services, delivering the best possible care for our patients; and being a great place to work for our people. The Buxton base is situated in the heart of the beautiful spa town of Buxton with good links to Manchester, Sheffield and Chesterfield by both road and train. The office is a quick walk to all the attractions of Buxton including the Pavilion Gardens and the Buxton Opera House.

We are passionate about sustainable transport and offer a cycle to work scheme, as well as an electric lease car scheme open to all employees. Our staff wellbeing service provides a huge range of benefits including staff counselling, access to free financial and legal advice and various support groups, fitness classes and even a staff choir! A staff wellbeing hub, including a free gym for staff has now opened on the main hospital site.
