Job overview
We are currently looking to appoint a Clinical Administration Officer (CAO) in the Speciality Medicine Care Unit within Medicine & Emergency Care Division. This is a secondment opportunity for a fixed term to March 2026. The working hours are Monday to Friday 0830-1700 with an hours lunch break.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Administration Officers (CAO's) provide a range of administrative support services to a group of consultant medical staff and nursing staff. They are expected to have advanced skills commensurate with their responsibilities. They will work independently, providing support of the highest quality and taking leadership in their professional areas.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital is located in Calow, Chesterfield, which is situated on a green field site on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It is home to the Crooked Spire and is also close to Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham, thus offering numerous choices for recreational activities and lifestyles.
Chesterfield Royal Hospital was officially opened by the queen in 1985 and since then it has continued to expand and modernise, currently holding approximately 550 beds. We provide acute in-patient and out-patient care for Chesterfield and the surrounding rural area of North Derbyshire, serving a population of approximately 350,000 people.
We are currently rated GOOD by the CQC.

Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- • Educated to GSCE standard (or equivalent), to include English grade C or above • Typing/Word Processing (or equivalent) • Familiar with Microsoft Office based computer packages, including email and internet
Desirable criteria
- • ECDL • Any office based training such as NVQ • Medical terminology • Audio Typing
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Experience of working as part of a multi- disciplinary team • Previous office/secretarial experience
Desirable criteria
- • Previous NHS experience • Knowledge of hospital Patient Information System
Skills & Knowledge

- • Good communication skills • Good prioritisation and organisational skills • Familiar with work based computer systems • Ability to work under pressure, prioritising work to meet deadlines • Good telephone manner
