Job overview

This role will enable a CT3/ST3+ equivalent level doctor to gain experience as part of our Anaesthetic team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.  You will work under the direction and supervision of the consultants to deliver a high-quality service to patients, as well as providing support to junior colleagues and nursing staff as required.

 

The post has been specifically designed for training level medics who already have anaesthetic experience but wish to further consolidate their knowledge, skills and confidence prior to moving on to the next stage of their career.

 

The post holder will mainly work in the operating theatres gaining experience and training in anaesthesia for a wide range of elective and emergency surgical specialties. There may also be opportunities to gain further experience in critical care or obstetric anaesthesia according to the developmental needs of the appointee.

 

Candidates will have the opportunity to discuss potential for specific training and development goals whilst undertaking this role.

 

On-call duties will be at a frequency of 1:8 on the ICU middle grade rota.

 

A clinical supervisor will be allocated and will provide support for the duration of the placement.

 

The minimum skill requirement, including 2 years of post-graduate experience in General surgery, is outlined on the attached Person Specification.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBChB or equivalent.
  • GMC registered with license to practise.
  • Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC) in Anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
  • Initial Assessment of Competence in Obstetric Anaesthesia
  • Completion of Primary FRCA
  • ALS, ATLS or APLS provider certification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 4 years post-graduate clinical experience (2 of which in related specialty).
  • Obstetric Anaesthesia and ICU trained (completion of IAOC, Obs2 and ICM2 modules)
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching delivery experience (any modality) to UG medical students.
  • Evidence of completing audit / quality improvement project and having implanted change to practice
