Locum Consultant Haematologist

Job overview

We are looking to appoint a Locum Consultant in Haematology on a fixed term basis to support Maternity leave. You will join a forward-thinking, innovative department, that has recently expanded its provision by opening a specialist paediatric unit, to further develop our highly rated service at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Applicants will be expected to have completed broad based general medical training along with specific training in Haematology.

The post will suit individuals with the desire and resolve to provide modern, high-quality care.

Together with colleagues you will provide a comprehensive Consultant Haematology service for inpatient and outpatient services and give appropriate support to facilitate the proper functioning of the laboratory department. You will be expected to take your share of the administrative and management responsibilities of the Haematology clinical and laboratory services. The scope of these duties will be determined in consultation with the Divisional teams and other consultants and will be reviewed regularly.  There is expectation, in conjunction with the other consultants, to help to maintain laboratory CPA accreditation and will contribute toward any relevant QA scheme.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCP/FRCPath or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad based Haematology experience
  • Experience of supervising junior doctors.
  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility in both laboratory and clinical Haematology
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
  • Quality/audit project experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in a similar post.
  • Experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience as an educational supervisor or clinical tutor.

Skills

  • Ability to organise and manage patient lists and priorities.
  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of the department
