Job overview

We are looking for a Head of Human Resources to lead our employee relations, recruitment and workforce wellbeing teams across the Trust. The role will report to the Deputy Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development.

You will demonstrate confident, values-led operational HR knowledge to coach and support a team of people professionals in all aspects of the Head of HR portfolio.

You will be an inclusive, experienced and values-led senior leader who can demonstrate effective working across all areas and levels of the organisation, system and region using excellent communication and engagement skills to build relationships and influence culture.   

We expect you to bring a sound understanding of employment law, experience of handling a range of complex employee relations issues and experience of leading a team. There will be many opportunities to get involved in various projects and workstreams too.

Main duties of the job

As an experienced HR professional, you will offer the following: 

  • Recent experience of delivering a customer and values-focused HR service at a senior level, providing advice on a range of complex employee relations issues including informal resolution and Just Culture, disciplinary, grievance, attendance support, organisational change and TUPE
  • Experience of leading a team with the ability to coach, motivate and build sound working relationships
  • Experience of working effectively with trade union colleagues
  • Ability to develop personal credibility with leaders and stakeholders at all levels and influence outcomes
  • Ability to think conceptually and pragmatically in problem solving
  • Strong project management and work planning skills and ability to deliver objectives to deadlines
  • Ability to effectively handle conflict and work collaboratively with others to seek a joint resolution
  • Strong interpersonal skills with effective influencing style and proven ability to handle complex and difficult issues.

  • Masters level, or equivalent experience, in HR or related topic
  • Post-graduate diploma in HRM

  • Significant senior experience working in complex and unionised organisation.
  • Recent experience of delivering a values-led and customer focused HR service at a senior level, providing advice on a range of complex employee relations issues including informal resolution, disciplinary, grievance, attendance management, organisational change and TUPE
  • Experience of working in partnership with trade unions
  • Line management experience
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of current employment law
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including making judgements surrounding complex, sensitive and contentious situations
  • Ability to think conceptually and pragmatically in problem solving
  • Ability to understand, interpret and articulate complex issues verbally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively handle conflict and work collaboratively with others to seek a joint resolution
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to use own initiative to drive a continuous improvement approach.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to deliver project/tasks to agreed deadlines
