Job overview
We are seeking a motivated pharmacist to lead clinical pharmacy services for the Emergency Department at Chesterfield Royal Hospital on a fixed term contact. This is a great opportunity for a forward thinking clinical pharmacist with the desire to work in a fast paced and innovative environment, to develop their practice and skills to the highest level within a specialist multidisciplinary team. You will be working within the new £27m state-of-the-art Urgent and Emergency Care Department.
Main duties of the job
You will undertake a lead pharmacist role working closely with the Emergency Department on all aspects of Medicines Management. You will work clinically within the Emergency department with the opportunity to utilise independent prescribing.
You will have a key role in managing clinical pharmacy services at the front door and linking with other teams as patients move on their journey beyond ED either into the hospital or back out into the integrated care system. You will be involved in helping shape new EPMA system and support the role out later in the year

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
These are the key areas that support the purpose of the job
1. To lead the provision and development of clinical pharmacy services within Urgent and Emergency Care Department and support the Principal pharmacists in the provision of the wider divisional clinical pharmacy services
2. The Pharmacist should:
• Lead the processing of requests for new medicines within the care unit
• Advise on the review of the Medicines Formulary as it applies to the speciality
• Facilitate the development and implementation of medicine-related guidelines
• Undertake the Pharmacy aspects of the induction of new medical and nursing staff in the specialty
• Lead the auditing of medicines in the specialty
• Attend appropriate specialty meetings to ensure that pharmaceutical issues are considered this includes care unit governance
• Lead the review of medicines related incidents within the Emergency Department
• Monitor and investigate Controlled Drugs (CDs) governance issues within the Emergency Department
• Lead pharmaceutical developments within the Emergency Department
• Monitor interventions in treatment to identify training and information need
• Provide training to all staff in pharmacy and the Emergency Department
3. To provide expert advice and information on new drugs and new treatment strategies in area of responsibility by evaluating and interpreting published evidence
4. To monitor information on drug expenditure/prescribing patterns and advise consultants, senior pharmacy managers and general managers on clinical economy within area of responsibility
5. To monitor compliance and advise on the implementation of National Guidance e.g. NICE
6. To advise the speciality management team on service and product developments and to contribute to the planning and implementation of any changes in practice
7. To undertake prescribing within a defined speciality, and as part of wider medicines optimisation initiatives undertaken by the clinical pharmacy service.
8. To undertake clinical pharmacy practice at an advanced level.
9. To train and counsel patients in the self-administration of medicines in defined circumstances
10. To provide training to Trainee Pharmacists and Clinical Pharmacists, including tutoring for the MSc/Diploma in clinical pharmacy and being a Designated Supervisor
11. To participate in clinical audit and other initiatives aimed at assuring high quality prescribing and pharmacy practice, within the context of Quality Governance
12. To provide training and education to other healthcare professionals
13. To provide professional supervision to technical and supporting staff and to undertake the role of Responsible Pharmacist when required
14. To contribute to the delivery and development of clinical pharmacy services across the Trust
15. Actively participate within the multi-disciplinary and clinical pharmacy team
16. To act as a source of expert advice on prescribing and medicines optimisation to medical and nursing staff within the Care Unit/ Speciality
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
17. To undertake any training (managerial and professional) identified by staff appraisal
18. To participate in weekend and Bank Holiday working in accordance with agreed rotas
19. In the event of a disruptive incident, all Trust employees may be required to attend work if they are fit and well and able to do so in line with business continuity and major incident plans
20. To maintain confidentiality at all times relating to patients, staff and the Trust
21. To actively participate in the Staff Appraisal Process
22. To be familiar and comply with relevant Operational, Personnel, Health and Safety policies and procedures, including Fire, COSHH, No Smoking and Alcohol
23. Maintain a safe environment by adhering to local infection control policies

- Additional Post Registration experience in Specialist Area

- 2 Years Post Registration Experience in acute hospital
- CPD and knowledge of NICE guidelines
