A great opportunity has arisen and we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Research Matron to lead our award winning Research Delivery Team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital to support the delivery of NIHR adopted research studies. You will be expected to work in a range of clinical areas and disease sites as part of our generic research delivery team. 

Main duties of the job

Work with the research team to lead on the operational aspects of the set up of new studies, oversee the delivery of the Hospital wide work to recruit participants to the research studies, maintain follow up visits, be responsible for entering data onto trial databases, raise the profile of research within the trust, record and maintain accurate documentation relating to trial participants.


Responsibilities will include overseeing the education of patients and colleagues, coordination of care of patients on trials, collection and preparation of biological samples, collection of trial data and monitoring of the expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities. The post holder will be expected to develop specialised skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials, the therapies and the relevant disease site. The post holder will be expected to have sufficient skills to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patient's advocate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Research  Matron will take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of the clinical research portfolio comprising national and international clinical trials. The post holder will provide leadership and line management support to team members in the Research Delivery Team.


We are ideally seeking someone with experience in clinical research, a knowledge of good clinical practice, good verbal and written communication, attention to detail and be able to demonstrate leadership qualities.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with Current NMC professional registration
  • Relevant Healthcare Degree or equivalent level of education
  • Research Training GCP
  • Research Training Informed Consent
Desirable criteria
  • Management or Leadership Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of line management experience
  • Broad and recent experience of research within the clinical setting
  • Experience at a senior clinical level in a similar environment.
  • Evidence of significant achievement in previous roles.
  • Teaching experience
Desirable criteria
  • Good leadership skills and proven managerial ability

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Broad and recent clinical experience relevant to the post
  • Proven record of meeting performance targets
  • Pertinent clinical skills (e.g. venepuncture)
  • In depth knowledge of clinical trials & research methodologies
  • Understand the significance of research and use of validated results to improve practice
  • Knowledge of UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research and Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
Desirable criteria
  • Line management experience within the NHS
  • Experience of delivery commercial and academic research
