Job overview

The postholder will be a registered nurse with a 1st level degree or equivalent highly skilled in the speciality of stroke medicine. They will be competent with all emergency stroke pathways and be able to demonstrate advanced clinical skills.

The postholder must be passionate about the stroke service, be approachable, self-motivated and able to work well under pressure. They must also have leadership skills with the ability to influence others, being a role model for the team. The post holder will be responsible for leading on a range of projects which include productivity and efficiency, transformation, clinical effectiveness and quality.

-          Delivering patient care and managing emergency stroke pathways

-          Expertise knowledge in stroke medicine

-          MDT liaison

-          Clinical governance

-          Research and audits

-          Service improvement / leading on projects

-          Teaching and assessing staff competencies

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • • Registered General Nurse • 1st level degree or equivalent • Physical examination course • Evidence of learning/qualification at master’s level or equivalent • Competent with all Emergency Stroke Pathways • Teaching & Assessing • Extensive experience in and knowledge of stroke medicine. • Specialty specific qualification appropriate to Role • Non-medical prescriber or willing to work towards
Desirable criteria
  • • Higher level qualification (eg; PhD, Masters) • Advanced communication qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Significant experience in speciality and demonstrable advanced clinical skills • Ability to deal with complex and difficult emotional situations • Experience of undertaking audit and completion of the audit cycle or nursing research • Ability to analyse data/information and make complex decisions • Leadership and Management experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Led Strategic work/planning • Familiar with current structure of health service and conversant with recent initiatives nationally. • Stroke specific transformational innovation • Risk management skills Developed educational programme

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to write report to a variety of audiences • Ability to work autonomously and within a team • Managerial and Leadership skills • High level influencing & negotiating skills • Good understanding of acute hospital governance • Thorough understanding of principles of SSNAP audit • Experience of clinical research • Leadership skills, with an ability to influence. • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with excellent interpersonal skills. • Confident to manage change. • Skills for nurturing key relationships and maintaining networks • Ability to deal with sensitive and complex issues. • Competent in the use of IT systems. • Knowledge of current national service issues/developments.
