We are looking for an assistant psychologist to join our innovative Post-COVID Service. You will be part of a multidisciplinary service and support its ambition to provide high quality, psychologically informed care. ou will be joining a friendly, supportive health psychology service, and have access to excellent supervision and mentoring opportunities. The role will suit someone who approaches their work with colleagues and service-users with warmth and curiosity, and who can bring creativity and an analytic mind to their work. 

We welcome applications from new graduates in psychology who have a particular interest in health psychology, or those with post-graduate experience wishing to expand their skills in this area. Main duties of the job

As an assistant psychologist you will work closely with colleagues from other disciplines and contribute to the delivery and evaluation of psychological care across the Post-COVID pathway.

The role will include group and individual work with service-users, interdisciplinary working, literature searches, co-creating resources, evaluating outcomes, and being a vital member of the service. The work will be closely supervised by a qualified Clinical Psychologist.

It is Trust policy that for posts that are for a time limited period, applicants who are currently employed by an NHS organisation will only be appointed on a secondment basis and should have approval from their line manager this is possible before applying. Applicants who are not employed by an NHS organisation, will receive a fixed term contract.

Education, qualification and training

Essential criteria
  • Good honours degree in Psychology (First Class or 2:1) or equivalent post-graduate conversion route.
  • Eligibility for Graduate Membership of British Psychological Society (this must be stated on your application form).

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of and interest in psychological issues related to physical health.
  • Knowledge of and interest in issues around health inequalities.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development or learning showing an interest in and passion for applying psychological ideas and approaches within a physical or mental health context.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and experience of working psychologically with people with physical or mental health problems.
  • Knowledge and experience in delivering psycho-education to people with physical health problems in individual or group situations.
  • Experience of delivering psychologically informed structured interventions (including guided self-help) for people with physical and mental health-related problems in individual or group situations.
  • Skills and experience in psychological assessment including risk assessment
  • Skills and experience in establishing therapeutic boundaries and rapport in individual or group settings.
  • Experience of completing service audit and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of and experience of working in or with clinical health psychology services.
  • Experience of delivering training to staff on mental and physical health-related issues.
