Job overview

We are a welcoming team of psychologists seeking colleagues who share our passion for the mind-body relationship, whether you have health psychology experience or are interested in applying your skills to a new area.

We are offering an exciting opportunity supporting people living with cancer (0.6wte 22hrs). 

You will provide specialist clinical interventions and support multidisciplinary teams to develop psychologically informed care. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues delivering a 2-year pilot to extend psycho-oncology provision in North Derbyshire.

The role provides ample opportunity to develop your skills in leadership and service development with an added focus on tackling health inequalities and developing trauma-informed practice.

For candidates seeking additional hours we also have opportunities in our core Heath Psychology service. 

Main duties of the job

Provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and clinical interventions in specialist clinical areas, delivering high quality evidence-based services.

Co-design and implement innovative strategies to influence uptake, retention and effectiveness of clinical interventions and provide consultation, training, and supervision to junior colleagues, working within professional guidelines and Trust policies and procedures and engage with key partners.

Work autonomously on specific projects into one or more geographical or service areas including: clinical outpatient clinics, MDT rehab programmes, psychological insights team and our integrated outreach psychology in DCHS.

Use research skills for audit, evaluation and research and contribute to future business cases and strategic development, supporting delivery of corporate, divisional and service objectives and operational plans.

Our team provides psychological services into a range of physical health condition pathways, including the core Clinical Health Psychology service, Pain Management, Cancer Services, Specialist Weight Management, Diabetes Education, Post Covid Psychology and our public health Psychological Insights Team.

The evolving nature of our service means there are constantly emerging opportunities to apply our psychological models and behaviours insights across the organisation.  You will have lots of colleagues to draw on in your role offering a wide range of experience in different therapeutic modalities.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good honours degree in Psychology. Eligibility for Graduate membership of BPS
  • Post–graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology. (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or those in lateral transfer as accredited by the B.P.S. Those coming through other practitioner psychology post graduate routes must have equivalent accreditation with a professional body.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist and entitled to use the title ‘Clinical Psychologist’ and be eligible to be chartered with the BPS or A full member of the Association of Clinical Psychologists UK. Registration with an equivalent professional body required for those coming through alternative practitioner psychology routes.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive knowledge of a range of psychological therapies and models.
  • Extensive knowledge of psychological issues related to physical health.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a broad range of health psychology settings
  • Clinical experience using a range of psychological therapies and models
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision to psychologists.
  • Experience of involvement in patient and public engagement activities.
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical experience in cancer or transferable skills
  • Experience of providing consultation, supervision and training to health care staff, other than qualified psychologists.
  • Experience of working with couples, families and /or carers

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work harmoniously with other disciplines.
  • Very high level of interpersonal and communication skills enabling written and oral presentation and receipt of complex and sensitive information, to facilitate acceptance and relate effectively in an emotive and hostile environment.
  • Ability to make judgements in complex clinical situations through assessment, analysis and interpretation of information and deciding on appropriate action from a range of options.
  • Assessment and therapeutic skills related to complex, severe and enduring psychological problems experienced by adults with physical health conditions.
  • Clinical supervision skills.
  • Ability to adapt communication and make “reasonable adjustments” to aid client understanding and engagement
  • Ability to provide consultation to other non-psychology colleagues, and teaching and training skills Psychological therapy skills.
  • Good written communication skills with the ability to tailor these to varying contexts
  • Awareness of, and ability to assess and manage risk.
  • Ability to fulfil travel requirements for the post.
  • Full driving licence, or ability to travel between locations as part of daily workload
