Job overview

We have an opportunity for you to join our team as a Research Governance Officer.  This vacancy is for a 12 month secondment or 12 month fixed term contract and is based at Walton Hospital, Chesterfield.

You will be required to work autonomously and communicate effectively with a diverse group of staff and users of health and social care services and have the ability to work across various sites within Derby, Derbyshire and the surrounding areas.

You will be required to assess and support the effective delivery of research across the organisation, support the delivery of the Research and Innovation Strategy and provide reasearch and advice

Main duties of the job

Research governance and delivery

 To enable research activity at DCHS to take place and enrich the experience of our colleagues and patients.

Study management

Assessing and supporting the effective and efficient delivery of research across the organisation.

Culture 

Support the delivery of the Research and Innovation Strategy

Research advice and training

Provide research advice and training on all aspects of research. 

Patient Care

Promote and undertake a broad range of research to assess, modernise and improve patient care.

Strategy and Service Development

The post holder will support development of the Trust’s research portfolio

Financial Resources/Management

Post holder will need to be aware of budget constraints and work within team and project budgets.

Information Resources/Information Systems

Develop networks with other disciplines across the Trust, other appropriate local and national agencies, other trusts and clinical networks to promote and enable collaborative research.

Autonomy/Scope within Role

Participate in collaborative working across the network and with other clinical researchers, within the Clinical Research Network and National Institute for Healthcare Research.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Relevant degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Good Clinical Practice training
  • Research training - informed consent, degree module etc.
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualification or willing to work towards or equivalent experience

Experience and Knowledge Required, Skills and attributes

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of all aspects of research governance and legislation including current national systems, structures and research regulatory processes for the approval, management and monitoring of clinical research in the NHS
  • Knowledge of the Research Governance Framework, Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, National Research Ethics Service and Good Clinical Practice Guidelines
  • Knowledge of the Health Research Authority and Research Ethics Committee approval process/requirements
  • Understanding of the EDGE or other research management systems
  • Understanding of Information Governance, confidentiality and research ethics
  • Proficient knowledge of clinical trials & research methodologies
  • Experience of working in a clinical research/governance environment (NHS, university or industry setting)
  • Understanding of data collection and data entry process for clinical trials
  • Data quality management
  • Experience of working within an MDT
  • Evidence of recent CPD
  • Experience of working to and meeting deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Intermediate IT skills including ability to work with standard Microsoft office applications (including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Competence in using the internet to search for and resource information
  • Ability to manipulate data in Excel
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload and work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to network and build relationships at all levels
