Job overview

You will provide Clinical Leadership and facilitate the learning environment of Specialist Public Health Nurses and other pre and post registration students in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme 0-19 service. Signing students off as 'Fit to Practice' for the NMC Register at the end of academic/practice year.

You will be responsible for a defined caseload with continuing responsibility for the assessment of need, implementation of evidence based initiatives and the evaluation/audit of them.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing clinical education within practice to the School Nursing service/teams ensuring evidence based practice is delivered to the highest standard (including pre and post registration students).
  • Supporting SCPHN students through their training and addressing competency issues, whilst providing clear and concise documentation of areas of concern. Support students with their assessments and practice outcomes.
  • Provide guidance and support to members of staff where competency issues have been raised, devise plans and support packages to address competency issues.
  • To prescribe in line with NMC code.
  • Assessment and marking of the Public Health Students learning outcomes evidence that they are 'Fit for Practice'.
  • Work in ways which are sensitive to and appropriate to the needs of children, young people and their families/carers with a wide range of ethnic, cultural, class and religious background.

Knowledge and Experiance

Essential criteria
  • Excellent understanding of School Nursing and the 0-19 agenda
  • Excellent knowledge of local and national public health agenda
  • Excellent understanding of safeguarding children and experience.
  • Experience of working with and supporting practitioners who are experiencing competency issues.
  • Clinical supervision experience
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach to work

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Evidence of leadership and the ability to lead and change practice
  • Ability to manage own workload, priorities. and experience of working a complex caseload.
