Job overview
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Grounds and Gardens Operative to join us at Derbyshire Healthcare.
In this role you will contribute to ensuring that DHCFT delivers a high-quality service which meets the needs of all our patients and families in line with the DHCFT strategy.
The Estates Department is seeking to recruit a Gardener to maintain the Trusts Grounds & Gardens to carry out scheduled maintenance, minor works, and day to day reactive tasks. The Estates programme is critical to achieving a suitable patient environment for all wards, departments, and areas to deliver the highest level of care.
Out of hours and weekend working will be occasionally required, dependant on tasks and the needs of the Trust, including a seasonal gritting rota.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve assisting in the day-to-day maintenance of the grounds and gardens as part of a small mobile team, including cleanliness and tidiness of grounds, gardens, roads, paths and paved areas, the care of lawns, flower beds, trees and shrubberies and other external areas as well as surface water drains and to ensure the external environment is free from hazards.
You will be accountable directly to the Estates Officers and overall, to the Head of Estates.

- Planned Preventative Maintenance: Mowing, strimming, weedkilling, pruning, planting, landscaping, machine maintenance, litter collection within the Estate
- Reactive Maintenance
- Seasonal Maintenance: Gritting/ snow clearing
- Minor Works involvement as deemed necessary
- Correct operation of job specific machinery
- Statutory & Mandatory training compliance
- Ability to complete legal records as required

Essential criteria
- Level 2 NVQ or Equivalent in Horticulture
Desirable criteria
- Chainsaw Licence
- Certification for use of Tractors & Ride-on Mowers

- Trailer licence
Driving

- Valid UK Licence
Skills & Knowlegde
Essential criteria
- Have experience of G&G works previously
- Have the ability to work autonomously, be well-organised, with high attention to detail and able to prioritise their own workload.
- Use of G&G related machinery/tools previously
Desirable criteria
- Working within a similar role - NHS or Maintenance Team
