Job overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity within the SMBU2 Business Unit at Royal Derby Hospital for someone to join our Cardiology Medical secretarial  Team.

This role is to provide an efficient Medical Secretarial service to the consultants and their team in respect of NHS work. To work flexibly with or alongside medical secretarial staff, consultants and other teams when required.  Part Time/Jobshare  Applicants also welcome.

Applicants must be confident communicators with the ability to liaise with staff at all levels. You will need to be an enthusiastic, motivated team player, with excellent problem-solving skills.

You will require high levels of tact and diplomacy with the ability to prioritise your own workload effectively to enable day to day management.

Main duties of the job

  • You will act as the main point of contact for patients and medical staff 
  • All queries are answered with skill and sensitivity and in a courteous and professional manner
  • Typing and dispatch of clinical correspondence within agreed timescales and quality standards
  • Ensure urgent test results/correspondence is brought to the immediate attention of the team
  • Providing secretarial support/cover for colleagues during absence
  • Efficient management of the Consultants diary.
  • Working to strict Trust and Government policies and Waiting list management and 18 weeks guideline.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate experience of working in a secretary role
  • A good standard of English to O level/GCSE (A-C grade) or equivalent
  • Experience of using IT systems
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using NHS Trust systems
