Job overview
An opportunity has arisen at the Royal Derby Hospital within Gastroenterology, for a part time Pathway Coordinator to join our secretarial team.
You will be part of an administration team of secretarial staff providing an efficient and professional medical secretarial service, within an established team of Clinicians.
You will need to be an enthusiastic and motivated team player with excellent communication and problem solving skills. You will require high levels of tact, diplomacy with the ability to prioritise your own workload effectively. The role will involve taking minutes of meetings which is essential however training can be provided.
Responsibilities of this role cover a wide range of administration and secretarial duties including typing clinical correspondence, appointment scheduling, diary management and dealing with a wide range of telephone queries. A flexible approach to workload is essential.
You will have a broad range of administrative skills in particular:
Main duties of the job
- Previous secretarial or administration experience.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- An understanding of the 18-week RTT process
- Knowledge of the Trust Patient Access Policy
- Knowledge and familiarisation of medical terminology
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Knowledge of Word, Excel, Internet and email systems
- RSA II or equivalent qualification / equivalent experience
- NVQ level III Business and Administration or equivalent knowledge and skills
- Audio typing qualification or experience desirable
- Minute taking experience preferred but training can be provided

Person specification
Training and Experience
Essential criteria
- A good standard of English to O level / GCSE equivalent
- RSA / OCR III or equivalent knowledge and skills
- Previous administrative and secretarial experience
Desirable criteria
- Audio typing qualifications or experience
- Medical secretary experience
Planning and Organisation
Essential criteria
- The ability to plan, organise and prioritise own work load and work to specified deadlines
- Must be an effective team player
IT Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates IT skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office packages
- Advanced keyboard skills / audio / copy typing
Desirable criteria
- Trained / Access to Trust systems such as Lorenzo and TA+
- Good level of typing speed and accuracy
- Digital audio typing experience
Physical
Essential criteria
- Extensive use of PC and other office equipment
