Job overview

Our Immunology Department is looking for a state registered Biomedical Scientist, who is proactive, self-motivated, enthusiastic and has excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • This post represents an excellent opportunity to gain and extend skills and knowledge in our small Immunology department at Royal Derby Hospital.
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience working in a Diagnostic Laboratory, and be comfortable trouble shooting and resolving QC and technical issues.
  • Familiarisation and understanding of ISO 15189 standards, Health & Safety requirements; audit and training/education techniques is desirable.
  • As part of a University Hospital the training and development of staff is one of our five Trust objectives. You will be provided with support in your professional career development and encouraged to be involved in the development of others.

Main duties of the job

 

  • To contribute to the provision of a high quality, accurate and timely diagnostic Immunology Service.
  • To assist with the training, instruction and supervision of trainee BMSs and MLAs within the Department.
  • To assist senior staff within the Department maintain and develop the service in line with departmental objectives.
  • Undertake day to day sample processing and authorisation of clinical results as competency is attained in order to maintain agreed KPI’s
  • To help maintain our full UKAS accreditation the successful candidate will be involved in QMS activities.
  • The role involves but is not limited to the following:

    • Use of automated ELISA and slide processing equipment
    • Maintenance of equipment.
    • Service development inclusive of quality management activities and projects.
    • Effective communication and team working.
    • Experience of using our current equipment and manual immunological techniques, Q-Pulse and/or CliniSys WPE would be an advantage but full training will be given.
