This is a unique opportunity to join an innovative obstetric team to deliver high quality and safe maternity care.

·         Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of obstetric patients.

 

·         To share with colleagues' responsibility for the day-to-day management of the obstetric service.

 

·         Participate in the work and development of the Fetal and Maternal Medicine Departments.

 

·         Teaching and training of trainee medical staff, medical students, and midwives.

 

·         Active participation in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.

 

Responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME), the appraisal process, and revalidation.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

This locum post joins a dedicated Fetal Medicine team comprising 1 other subspecialist consultant in fetal medicine, 4 fetal medicine special interest consultants, 52 fetal medicine midwives, 3 screening midwives, a Fetal Medicine Support Worker and secretarial support. The FMU uses a dedicated GE Voluson E8 /10 machines (with a full range of 3/4D volume acquisition, STIC, TUI, and other scanning modalities) and a Viewpoint FM database for reporting. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to and develop their research output and to represent the FMU and Trust at national and international meetings. In addition, they will be mentored and supported to increase their clinical and organisational expertise and experience.

The unit has well-established links to allied regional services, such as clinical genetics, paediatric cardiology, and paediatric surgery, and has an excellent record in managing all our FM cases, including delivery.

There is a local FM/Perinatal MDT meeting with neonatal colleagues and a fortnightly high-risk surgical and placenta accreta spectrum Obstetric MDT meeting with allied medical specialties including Obstetric Anaesthesia, Gynaecology Oncology, and Interventional Radiology, as well as ad hoc regional diagnostic MDT meeting to support the regional PAS service. In addition, there is the expectation to be involved in region-wide MDTs and meetings following the creation of formal Midlands-wide Fetal Medicine and Maternal Medicine networks.

There is a dedicated 1:14 Service week 9 am -5 pm. There is a 1:14 on-call with 5 5-hour resident sessions covering the Delivery suite/ Maternity unit on weekdays and evenings, with an allied 14-hour non-resident on-call overnight. 1:14 9 hours split weekends daytime resident and overnight on call are included. On the call cover is prospective. There are no resident night-time sessions. There are 17 dedicated obstetricians and 3 other consultants in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology who provide obstetric emergency, in-patient, and out-patient services along with a large team of junior and SAS staff.

Experience

  • Clinical training & experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT/CCST in obstetrics & gynaecology
  • Completed MOET / PROMPT training.
  • ATSM in advanced labour ward management
