Job overview
This is a locum appointment for 12 months to cover maternity leave anticipated to start from April 2025 at UHDB Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Based at Derbyshire Children’s Hospital at the Royal Derby Hospital, although other services are provided across all the Trust sites including the Queens Hospital Burton site and peripheral clinics at Ilkeston, Lichfield and Tamworth. We are looking for an enthusiastic Paediatrician to join our flexible team and compliment the range of services provided.
Main duties of the job
The role on offer is for an 8 PA contract . It will include a 1:8 on-call commitment for general paediatrics and for providing an out-of-hours emergency service (non-resident Rota), on a shared basis with other Consultants within the Department for which an on-call availability supplement is payable.
You will be responsible for the continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Ability to offer expert opinion & take full & independent responsibility for clinical care of patients across the wide spectrum of paediatric disorders.
Experience of &commitment to teaching undergraduates & postgraduate
Experience of supervising F1, F2, ST trainees
Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills

Person specification
Qualifications / Specialist Listings
Essential criteria
- MBBS/MBChB or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration with a License to practice at time of application
- Full Membership of RCPCH
- APLS provider
- Training in Child Protection/ Safeguarding (Min Level 3)
Desirable criteria
- APLS/ instructor
- Interest / experience in paediatric adolescent health / eating disorders
- Have CCT or within 6 months of attaining CCT at time of interview or entry onto GMC Specialist Register by time of interview
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Good standard of clinical skill & expertise in General Paediatrics
- Comprehensive technical competence in paediatrics
- Experience in making clinical decisions and ability to prioritise clinical need.
- Evidence of ability to work effectively as part of a multi disciplinary team & share clinical responsibilities
Management & Administrative Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of active participation in audit
- Demonstrates clear understanding of current priorities in General Paediatrics
Teaching Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of teaching undergraduates.
Desirable criteria
- Qualification in medical education
Research Experience
Desirable criteria
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
