Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Theatre Practitioner to join our team at Queens Hospital Burton whilst being based at Sir Robert Peel Hospital Surgical Day Case Unit. 

The Surgical Day Case Unit comprises of one theatre offering all aspects of day case surgery including Ophthalmic, Orthopaedic, Urology, Gynaecology and General Surgeries alongside two endoscopy rooms undertaking diagnostic procedures.

The post holder will show a particular interest in Surgical Day Case activity supporting SRP and QHB Surgical Day Case Specialities. Full responsibility, accountability and leadership will be needed for the daily management and organisation of the Theatre, Endoscopy and Ambulatory suite. This will require assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation of surgical, anaesthetic and recovery care to ensure a safe care environment to meet patient’s needs.

A close working relationship will be required with the Lead Practitioner in order to ensure safe delivery of Day case and Endoscopy services at SRP.  Including, ensuring a smooth, efficient and effective intra operative care delivery.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties

  • Deliver safe quality care for patients during their peri-operative phase of care.
  • To support, coordinate and actively assist in the management and organisation of care within the operating department.
  • To actively lead daily theatre teams 
  • To provide senior support and guidance for theatre teams and to work with the line managers for patient safety. 
  • To provide scrub and or anaesthetic support within the theatre setting 
  • Provide quality planned care for patients during their peri-operative phase of care by ensuring all team members deliver quality patient care by providing appropriate clinical and managerial leadership.
  • Lead in the delivery of patient care, during a list or specified period of time.
  • Ensure that patient safety checks are carried out in accordance with the policy and that all practitioners adhere to the policy.
  • Contribute to quality improvement.
  • Develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of others and self.
  • Promote best evidence based practice within own scope of practice.
  • Apply legislation, policies and procedures correctly.
  • Achieve agreed objectives and demonstrating Trust behaviours at all times.
