We are looking for a highly motivated member of staff to join our team. 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 registered nurse to join the Dermatology Department, Rowan House, on a 6 month fixed term contract. 

You should be willing to be part of a forward thinking team and keen to undertake training and professional development on a regular basis as the provision of dermatology services changes. An interest in supporting dermatological surgical procedures would be advantageous.

The Unit provides a large range of services including: dermatology minor operations (including MOH’s surgery), nurse led consultations and care for systemic skin conditions, research into new drugs and skin treatments, UVA and UVB skin therapy, photodynamic therapy, specialist acne and eczema clinics, 2 week wait skin cancer and dressings clinics.

Responsible for co-ordinating and delivering effective quality nursing care in the speciality following a patient centred model of practice and ensuring area of work runs smoothly and efficiently.

To provide clinical expertise and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Supervision and direction of junior nursing staff, healthcare assistants and learners.

To undertake nurse led clinics, such as dressing clinics, phototherapy, patch testing.

To provide patient education and health promotion about chronic dermatological conditions.

To provide support for drug monitoring clinics and the skin cancer service.

To work as a scrub practitioner for minor dermatology surgical procedures.

CLINICAL.

 Providing and delivering a high standard of nursing care by initiating and co-coordinating the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating of individual patients needs based on evidence. This includes all aspects of care from admission to discharge.
    
·    Reporting and documenting all relevant nursing/patient needs, communicating changes with other health care professionals in the multi-disciplinary team with ongoing responsibility for patient care as they occur.
    
·    Promoting and delivering health education within the clinical area and advise patient, family, and others in health promotion issues.
    
·    Engage; interact with carers/family encouraging them to be actively involved in patient’s care and planning  as outlined in the department philosophy.
    
·    Demonstrating and undertaking evidence-based practice playing an active part in the introduction of this evidence to improve patient centred care 
    
·    Supervising, assessing, mentoring and supporting junior Registered Nurses and Health Care Professionals including bank and agency staff in the clinical setting.
    
·    Increasing the level of knowledge and skills within the Department/Directorate through sharing best practice and supporting others to develop their professional abilities.
    
·    Implementing and sharing good infection control practice.
    
·    Undertaking manual handling assessments and ensuring identified actions are met.

·    Assist with the monitoring of patient’s topical treatments, reporting any variance in the course of the treatment to medical staff and senior members of the nursing team.

·    Utilise clinical procedures such as ultraviolet therapy, patch tests, photodynamic therapy commensurate to their level of competence to facilitate the appropriate treatment of this client group.

·    Assist in the care of patients undergoing minor surgical interventions, recognising problems and initiating action when required.   

·    Assist surgical practitioners by working within the sterile field as a surgical assistant
