Advanced Urology Cancer Nurse

Job overview

The Advanced Urology Cancer Nurse is a new post that will establish and lead the 
nurse led TP biopsy service.

You will be working with a team of nurses with specialist skills knowledge and experience in urological cancer care. You  will provide specialist support and information to patients and their families throughout their cancer pathway.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals and working in partnership with our specialist cancer providers you will manage these patients across the pathways of care. 

As an expert practitioner assessing and initiating treatment as appropriate for patients within agreed protocols. 

Main duties of the job

  • Work as an expert practitioner by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating 
    the specialist nursing care of patients requiring urological investigations and 
    treatments, this will include a nurse led TP biopsy service.
  • As a Urology Cancer CNS you will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team 
    ensuring that patients with urology malignancies receive the highest standard of care 
    and support from the time of diagnosis and throughout the cancer pathway.
  • Provide expert advice to clinical staff on urological issues.
    To act as the patients’ advocate when required and provide expert advice and 
    comprehensive information, both written and verbal, on treatment options to enable 
    patients to make an informed choice.
  • Establish and maintain coordination of care for patients throughout diagnosis, 
    planning, treatment and follow-up, liaising with all other service providers to ensure a 
    smooth pathway.
  • The provision of nurse led clinics for assessment and cancer follow-up, initiating 
    investigations and procedures, making recommendations for treatment and referring 
    to other agencies or discharging as appropriate.
  • Work autonomously in providing ongoing support for a large number of cancer
    patients who have open access to the urology CNS service, including patients awaiting results, those newly diagnosed with urological cancer and others with advanced disease.

The urology team is a small, friendly team that is currently across multiple sites with 
the main outpatient clinics based in Paignton. We are a supportive team committed

  • NMC registered Degree level qualification in Adult Nursing
  • Experience in the management of patients with urological related health concerns
  • Evidence of continuing personal / professional development

  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification or the ability to undertake
  • Ability to undertake in depth urological related assessment. Devise and implement appropriate and safe care plans
