This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative and dynamic team responsible for transforming cancer services across Devon and Cornwall. The Peninsula Cancer Alliance is a partnership that brings together leaders from different hospital trusts and other health and social organisation and covers a population of approx. 1.8 million people. Our aim is to improve the diagnosis and treatment and care outcomes for cancer patients in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual to implement and embed the Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development Programme (ACCEND) across the South-West Peninsula footprint.

ACCEND has been developed nationally to provide transformational reform in the education, training and career pathways for cancer support workers, nurses and AHPs supporting people affected by cancer.

Under the leadership of the Trust Lead Cancer Nurses and Workforce Programme Manager within the Alliance, you will develop expertise in the programme and work with our providers and partner organisations to ensure that ACCEND is fully integrated and embedded as part of the workforce and education culture across the Peninsula.

This role would be perfect for a senior NHS professional with experience of working in roles within education and/or cancer services. Project management and delivery of new programmes would also be an asset.

Main duties of the job

Lead the development of the ACCEND programme across the Peninsula.

Provide strategic direction and programme management to implement ACCEND, working with trust cancer leads, clinical educators and learning and development leads across the Peninsula.

Working collaboratively with our partner Cancer Alliances across the South-West to review job roles and descriptions aligning where possible to the ACCEND capabilities

Evaluating the impact of the ACCEND programme across our Alliance, in particular with regards to recruitment and retention of the existing workforce.

The post holder will lead and be responsible for the Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development (ACCEND) Programme to transform our approach of the delivery of cancer training and education for the cancer workforce across the Peninsula.

The post holder will provide strategic direction and programme management to implement the National ACCEND programme, working with trust cancer leads, clinical educators and Learning and Development Leads across the Peninsula.

 The post holder will need to work closely with the Trust’s Learning and Development Leads, Trust Cancer Board, MDTs and partners.

To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate Plymouth Hospitals Values.

  • Development of strategic plan to implement and embed the ACCEND Programme within the Peninsula
  •  Deliver KPIs

  •  Production and reporting to South West Cancer Alliance Cancer Board and PHNT Cancer Board

  • Extensive proven knowledge of specialist area acquired through postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master’s level equivalent
  • Extensive demonstrable experience working in the cancer field
  • Proven Evidence of post-qualifying and continuing professional development
  • Must have an understanding of the background to, and aims of, current cancer programme and appreciate the implications of this on engagement
  • Should have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health and individual provider and commissioning organisations
  • Proven Evidence of training and/or experience in service improvement skills and development
  • Demonstrable Experience of using programme/project management principles techniques and tools to improve and develop services
