Job overview

The Cardiology Department at University Hospitals Plymouth is pleased to invite applications for the position of Cardiology Clinical Fellow.

Over an 11-week cycle, the Cardiology Clinical Fellow will undertake one week of night shifts on call, divided into four nights and three nights (20:00 to 08:30), and one week of late shift on-call days, divided into four and three long days (08:00-20:30). They will contribute to the In-Patient Cardiology Consultation service for one week. They are expected to conduct two clinics per full week. The remaining time will be allocated to the catheterisation laboratory. Weekly Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings for revascularization, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), and endocarditis are scheduled, along with monthly optional meetings in Ischemic Cardiomyopathy (ICC) and Pulmonary Hypertension (PHT).

Main duties of the job

Education

0900-1300 monthly Continued Medical Education meeting Cardiology Consultants and SpRs will present cases, audit and literature reviews.

 

0800-0900 Thursday Echocardiography Meeting:

This weekly meeting is attended by the cardiology junior doctors and physiologists. The meeting includes  review of recent interesting cases.

 

0800-0900 Wednesday SHO teaching:

You will be actively involved in SHO teaching

 

Audit

The Fellow will be actively involved in audit within the directorate and report on audit projects at the regional audit meetings.

Education, qualifications and special training

Essential criteria
  • Primary medical qualification
  • Full registration with the GMC or GDC, holding a licence to practice
  • Full MRCP
  • Valid ALS certification
Desirable criteria
  • Other post graduate qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of 5 years post graduate clinical experience
  • Evidence of completion of audit and QIP projects.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working at Registrar level within Cardiology
  • Experience of clinical governance and attendance at research governance training courses
