Job overview

Cardiac Recovery Plymouth has an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 registered Nurses/ODPs to complement our multi-disciplinary team. As part of the multi-disciplinary team, your skills will be valued as you will work alongside other healthcare professionals providing high quality patient centred care. Within the department complex, patients undergo a wide variety of cardiac procedures and due to a current refurbishment plan we are looking to expand our team.

The expectation is that you will work within Cardiothoracic Recovery, supported by undertaking an in-house training package that is personal to your developmental requirements.  On completion of in-house training there will be a requirement to participate in the on-call rota.

Our shifts are between the hours of 08:00 to 20:00 Monday to Friday, with an on-call commitment for nights and weekends.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for implementing, coordinating and delivering effective, high quality perioperative care for the surgical patient, following a client-centred model of practice and ensuring area of work runs smoothly and efficiently.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 

  • Provide high quality care to patients and their families during the perioperative period.

 

  • Under the direction of the Recovery Team Leader, the post holder will be responsible for implementing, coordinating and delivering effective, high quality care for the patient during the perioperative period.

 

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

 

  • Following a period of preceptorship, take responsibility for the supervision of Health Care Assistants and other learners

 

  • Reporting and documenting all relevant patient needs, communicating changes to other health professionals in the multidisciplinary team.

 

  • To carry out duties within the guidelines of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct/HPC professional guidelines.

 

  • To contribute to the overall efficiency and development of the theatre service.

 

  • No direct budgetary control but must be aware of effective use of resources and cost implications

 

 

  • Act as Practitioner in charge, in the absence of the Team Leader ensuring efficient allocation of staff and resources.

 

  • Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice and clinical excellence and play an active role in the introduction of this evidence to improve patient centred care.

 

  • To engage and interact with patients and their carers, explaining procedures and treatments to gain co-operation, understanding and allay apprehension.

 

  • Assist with projects to develop and enhance patient care. Participate in the evaluation of patient outcomes, including audit, risk management and infection control.

 

  • Attend relevant meetings and deliver feedback.

 

  • To develop and achieve objectives identified through continuing appraisal of job role.

 

  • To develop appraisal skills and carry out appraisals and personal development plans for non-registered assistant in line with Agenda for Change and the knowledge skills framework.

 

  • Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate and initiate appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff development and training.

 

  • Maintain and continuously improve in-depth specialist knowledge relevant to the clinical area, which significantly contributes to the Trust’s stated aims and objectives.

 

  • Report and manage untoward incidents, such as clinical emergencies, injury or drug administration errors, as detailed in Trust policies and procedures.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Demonstrable experience within a similar role
  • • Demonstrable experience working within a clinical setting
Desirable criteria
  • Competent in anaesthetics, scrub or recovery.
  • Ability to demonstrate managerial or leadership potential.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Registered with NMC/HPC
  • • Diploma/Degree in related Healthcare subject or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • • Proven evidence of recent CPD.
  • • Proven knowledge of and ability to apply evidence-based practice to patient care.
Desirable criteria
  • • Accredited specialist training.
  • • Mentorship qualification.
  • • NVQ Assessor.
