1) To act as the lead nurse of the University Hospitals Plymouth Parkinson’s disease service (0.4 FTE)

0.4 FTE of this role will be to provide strategic leadership for UHPNT Parkinson’s disease service and direct line management for a rapidly growing team of Parkinson’s specialist practitioners/nurses. This includes a nurse-led new patient pathway for newly diagnosed PD, a nurse-led pathway for supported self-management and patient-initiated follow-up, a nurse-led inpatient liaison service,  a regional atypical Parkinson’s clinic and a rapidly expanding device assisted therapy (DAT) service.  Part of this role will be the direct line management of a number of specialist practitioners.

2) To act as a Senior CNS for device assisted therapies (0.6 FTE)

0.6 FTE will be to provide clinical care within and service development of the device assisted therapies (DAT) service at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Funding has recently been obtained to expand this service to build a comprehensive care pathway for those with advanced/complex Parkinson’s disease. This will allow equitable access to infusion based dopaminergic treatments (apomorphine, foslevodopa-foscarbidopa and levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel) and Deep Brain Stimulation within the catchment area of UHPNT. It forms part of a regional network of Parkinson’s DAT nurses, operating across the South West Peninsula, in close collaboration with the established regional DAT centre at North Bristol NHS Trust.

UHPNT will be the first centre across the South West Peninsula to run a dedicated DAT clinic; it is anticipated that satellite clinics will in due course open at other acute NHS Trusts across the South West Peninsula. Part of the role will be to provide support for Parkinson’s nurse specialists to establish and run clinics at these centres. This will entail a strong element of regional education to facilitate knowledge transfer and sharing of best practice.

Both aspects of the role are anticipated to be predominately hospital based. Most clinical contact will be in person, either at UHPNT sites or within the community (including where appropriate at the patient’s home). There may be a limited opportunity for some home working, however this would be anticipated to be largely restricted to administrative or service development tasks.  

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
