To support the Occupational Therapists to deliver a high quality and comprehensive Occupational Therapy service.

The OT Department is committed to Continued Professional Development and involves all grades of staff in its In-Service Training programmes. We are committed to student training.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

We require a flexible, enthusiastic and motivated individual to work within the Occupational Therapy Team for the Orthopaedics, Surgical and paediatrics wards, under the supervision of Occupational Therapists in Derriford Hospital.

Duties will include assisting in assessments of activities of daily living, home visiting and on-going treatment programmes.  Additional responsibilities include delivery of equipment, co-ordinating department equipment loan store, clerical duties and general administration within the Occupational Therapy Department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The OT Team provides a 7-day service across the elective and trauma orthopaedics wards. The applicant will require excellent communication and time management skills and have a flexible approach. Post holder must be able to work on the weekend and bank holiday rota.

Ability to travel in between sites would be an advantage.

Person specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • To have demonstrable experience of working with people with health needs
  • To understand the role of Occupational Therapy within the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • To have worked in an OT Department, within an Acute Care setting
  • To have demonstrable experience of assisting in OT interventions for patients

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent in health related subject and/or relevant experience at NVQ 3 level.
  • GCSE in English and Maths (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • To have health care related qualification
  • To have basic Food & Hygiene certificate

Aptitudes and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • To be interested in promoting independence for patients
  • To be independent and able to accept responsibility
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to move and handle patients using appropriate recommended techniques/equipment
