A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and passionate Physiotherapy Technical Instructor to join our highly regarded stroke therapy team. This dynamic team is looking for someone who is confident to deliver high quality therapeutic assessments and interventions within the therapy team which includes: Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech and Language Therapists.
The successful candidates will join this well-established service to support, deliver and develop this service for the local Health Community. University Hospitals Plymouth is committed to providing both quality care to the local population and supporting our staff. ***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job
This post provides support for registered physiotherapists in a range of clinical and non-clinical tasks as part of the physiotherapy service on the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit.
The team provides rehabilitation Monday – Saturday and so the postholder will be expected to work Saturdays approximately once a month.

Person specification
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- To have demonstrable experience as a Therapy Assistant.
- To have demonstrable experience of assisting in therapy assessment & interventions.
- To have the ability to communicate with patients, including those with hearing difficulties, cognitive impairment and aggressive / challenging behaviour.
- To have demonstrable experience in liaising with other staff within the MDT on the patients progress / issues.
Desirable criteria
- To have worked in a therapy Department, within an Acute and community Hospital.
- Demonstrable experience of working with stroke or neurology patients.
- To have demonstrable experience in carrying out home visits without supervision.
- To have proven knowledge of rehabilitation treatments and activities.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSEs Grade A-C/4-9 in Maths and English or Functional Skills level 2 in Maths and English Plus NVQ level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care or equivalent in therapy/exercise rehabilitation
- or equivalent proven knowledge acquired through demonstrable experience to diploma equivalent level.
- Up to date proven evidence of CPD and proactive attitude.
Desirable criteria
- Completion of STARS competencies.
- Completion of stroke physio assistant competencies.
- Attendance on training and courses relevant to the post.
