Current registration in Microbiology with the Health Professions Council (HPC)
BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science

Previous experience in a diagnostic microbiology laboratory
Evidence of a project performed in diagnostic microbiology

Knowledge and experience

Experience of a computerised Pathology System
Understanding of manual techniques and also automated technology
Knowledge of Health and Safety issues • Ability to work as a member of a team or as an individual
Ability to organise own workload
Ability to train less experienced and less qualified staff
Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with both own co-workers and other, external health care professionals
Ability to work under pressure

Evidence of experience in all major areas of diagnostic microbiology, evidenced by bench logs and training records
Knowledge and understanding of microbiology analysers
Good interpretative skills when assessing bacterial growth and confirming pathogens and antibiograms
Knowledge of latest guidelines for diagnostic microbiology practices
Previous experience on an on-call rota for microbiology
