Band 6 Rotational Respiratory Physiotherapist

Job overview
This Band 6 rotational respiratory Physiotherapy post is for 21 hours a week, for 12 months maternity cover.
The post holder will work within the inpatient Physiotherapy Team At Torbay Hospital. The post holder will be part of the 7 day service, working at the weekend once a month. The post holder will be part of the on-call service and support band 5’s that are on-call. The post will work over a variety of areas ICU, Medical respiratory, Surgical Respiratory and Paediatrics. The post holder will provide senior leadership to their specialist area and deputise for the Band 7 when required. The post holder will provide respiratory care in clinics, for outpatients and home-visits.
To act as a source of expertise on the assessment and management of patients presenting with a wide range of respiratory pathologies. They will provide education to physiotherapists, student physiotherapists, skilled non registered staff, other healthcare professionals, GPs, Consultants, patients and their carers.
To work with the MDT in identifying appropriate physiotherapy treatments and managements. Work closely with both the OT’s and discharge coordinators in facilitating appropriate patient discharge plans. To utilise all current discharge services and planning procedures
To educate and train physiotherapists, students and other healthcare professionals in the physiotherapeutic management of chronic and acute respiratory conditions.
Main duties of the job
Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, including professional and legal accountability and managing clinical risk for all aspects of own work. Some aspects of work will involve delivery of the care as part of a multidisciplinary team. In most cases to be the sole health professional with responsibility for that patient’s episode of care.
Undertake advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse or complex physical, psychological, cognitive and behavioural conditions in order to provide an accurate diagnosis and prognosis. To formulate and deliver individualised physiotherapy treatment programmes, including manual therapy techniques, therapeutic handling, patient education, provision of exercise (individual/group), respiratory adjuncts and other alternative options.
Supervision takes the form of regular formal training, clinical reasoning sessions and peer review. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required.
Undertake as directed collection of data for use in service audit and research projects. To manage and undertake research in specific areas of clinical practice and service delivery using a range of research methodologies as part of MDT audit and departmental research initiatives. To make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service, for changes to team practice. To implement specific changes to practice as required.
