Experienced Rotational Physiotherapist Specialist

We have an exciting opportunity to join our health care of the older person rotation within Physiotherapy at Torbay hospital and our community teams.

This band 6 post will be working  to support the management of frail/elderly patients through the hospital and the community 

This specialist post will work across our emergency floor and short stay units, health care of the older person wards at Torbay hospital, our ready to go unit and within a community (in a hospital setting or IC team) setting.

You will work alongside other members of the MDT providing Specialized Physiotherapy assessment and management  of older patients in healthcare. You will work on the 7 day rota, working approximately one weekend in four. There is no On Call requirement with this post.

  • Provide a specialized Physiotherapy assessment and treatment plan for healthcare of the older person in a variety of settings, this will include prevention of admission from the community,  in AE and short stay units, providing  supporting complex discharge from the wards.
  • Will be responsible for education to the direct and wider team regarding management of the frail and elderly patient.
  • You will be responsible for band 5 Physiotherapists, health care support workers and students. This is a new rotation to our team so the post holder will be expected to look at service development through the acute and community teams

Diploma/degree in physiotherapy

Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio, including attendance at recent Postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical field

Working knowledge of a broad range of musculoskeletal, neurological and medical conditions common in the elderly

Experience working with a strength based, person centred approach to assessment and treatment

Ability to contribute to weekend/evening working rosters

The use of highly developed therapeutic handling skills, manual techniques and facilitation of movement. 

Ability to work in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients and carers

Requirement for prolonged periods of intense concentration (to analyse complex information, e.g. during assessments of up to 90 minutes length, taking in-depth patient history, movement analysis and teaching clinical skills)

  • • Knowledge and experience of safeguarding of adults’ processes

  • • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • • Experience supervising student physiotherapists or physiotherapy assistant/technical instructors/support workers
  • • An understanding of Clinical Governance and its implications for services, including experience of quality issues and participation in research and audit

  • • Experience of primary care rehabilitation frailty and care of the older person.
  • • Knowledge and understanding of complex frailty assessment/skills

Qualifications and training

  • • Experience within the NHS including experience as a Band 5 Physiotherapist in a broad rotational post covering a range of experience in respiratory orthopaedics, elderly care, medical, surgical, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions
