Job overview

We are looking for a substantive Team Lead podiatrist with interest in MSK at Band 7 within our Podiatry department.

You will provide professional clinical leadership for a team thus ensuring standards of clinical expertise and excellence in podiatry are continually maintained and improved, particularly in the MSK service.

You will provide leadership in developing and providing a specialist Musculoskeletal (MSK) podiatric service across the Torbay and South Devon Health Community within existing resources

Main duties of the job

  • To manage a team of podiatrists and support staff, achieving performance management targets within prescribed budgetary limits and ensuring that the highest possible standard of podiatry is delivered effectively and efficiently to patients within Torbay and South Devon Community and within existing resources.
  • To work as a confident clinical specialist, demonstrating highly specialist knowledge, skills and expertise and advising colleagues on the assessment, diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal conditions and undertake all podiatry clinic activity.
  • To support head of service in developing research and development innovations for MSK podiatry

Working for our organisation

The podiatry department consists of 45 clinical staff, comprising of Head of Service, Team Leads, Specialist podiatrists, podiatrists, assistant practitioners and clinical support staff .  We also have 10 administrative staff. 

We aim to innovatively deliver first class lower limb and foot health preventative care across South Devon.   We strive to achieve better outcomes for our patients  whilst we also actively promote development opportunities for our staff.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • State Registered Podiatrist to Health and Care Professions Council
  • Degree/ Diploma in Podiatric Medicine
  • Masters degree or equivalent
  • Leadership or management qualification
  • Mentorship qualification
  • Certificate of local anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
  • Ultrasound qualification
  • Corticosteroid injection qualification
  • Advanced gait analysis

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Presentation skills
  • Knowledge of NHS or departmental and Trust policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Knowledge of developing, auditing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating protocols/guidelines and procedures
  • Ability to lead and supervise Health Care Assistants, Assistant Practitioners and Podiatrists
  • Ability to assess, formulate and implement treatment plans
  • Ability to provide health education
  • Ability to explain and follow policies, systems and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to produce training packages on MSK assessments and treatment pathways for departmental staff and other health care professionals
