Job overview

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT) have an exciting opportunity as a Recovery Coordinator within the Torbay Drug and Alcohol Service. 

The principal purpose of the job is to improve the psychological health & wellbeing of people referred with a coexisting and identified drug/alcohol problem, and move them through a treatment leading to sustainable recovery from all substances of misuse.

This role will be based at Shrublands House in Torquay supporting a partnership approach to working between Devon Partnership Trust and TSDFT. The service is part of a  Multiple Complex Needs Alliance with Torbay Domestic Abuse services and with the local Homelessness Hostel.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake comprehensive (and risk) assessments of clients referred via the Access To Treatment team.
  • Work alongside GPs with Special Interest and non-Medical Prescribers (NMP’s) to coordinate, plan, implement and review a range of interventions to meet individual needs as identified with the service user.
  • To participate in local audit processes as and when required.
  • Undertake training to become a skilled practitioner utilising a trauma informed approach to practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please see attached job description that includes person specifics for this post. 

  • Agree with the service user objectives to be cited in the Individual Recovery Plan (IRP) that will be reviewed at 3-monthly intervals
  • Provide a range of clinical and psychosocial interventions. These would normally include comprehensive care-planning, drug screening, monitoring prescribing interventions, motivational interviewing and relapse awareness.
  • Undertake training to become a skilled practitioner utilising a trauma informed approach to practice.
  • Perform any duties within a) relevant professional body code of conduct (e.g. nursing /  social work) b) Care Trust policies, c) Nationally and locally accepted guidelines and standards (e.g. Department of Health Drug Misuse and Dependence Guidelines on Clinical Management
  • To provide, or oversee, the Hepatitis B vaccination of clients on the post holder’s caseload.
  • To facilitate Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV screening of clients, as appropriate and refer to specialist services as required
  • Ensure client’s needs in respect of access to general healthcare, housing, education, employment, training and benefits are identified and appropriate action taken.
  • Refer individuals to other agencies to meet needs identified on the care
  • To promote equality, diversity and rights of service users.
  • Develop relationships with generalists, and generic health and social care professionals operating within health and social care localities.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and information sharing protocols at all times.
  • Act as a mentor for students and other learners, and facilitate learning opportunities for all professionals in issues relating to drug misuse as necessary.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of training events.
  • Work with  the local case management IT tool ‘HALO’.

  • • Relevant Professional Qualification in Health / Social Care/Allied Health Professional
  • • Significant and demonstrable experience of working within a Substance Misuse Service
