Dental Triage Nurse - Bank - Hybrid - Welwyn Garden City

Job overview

This role involves working as part of a wider team to provide dental triage, advice and assistance to callers with a range of urgent and emergency dental issues. The team comprises of clinical and non-clinical staff including doctors, pharmacists, nurses. Paramedics, and trained call handlers. As a dental nurse at HUC you will be responsible for managing patients calling with dental complaints. This could range from a lost filling to dental trauma. You will call patients, ask the relevant questions based on your own clinical judgement and following the dental triage protocol. You will provide the patient with self-care advice, information on how to seek dental urgent care or book them an appointment, if necessary, any worsening advice and help them to access care most relevant for their assessed dental needs at the time.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for enthusiastic dental nurses who are eager to learn and work in a new and challenging environment. You must be able to work independently, be comfortable with managing responsibility and also aware of when to seek advice and/or help. Experience of managing and advising patients over the phone is beneficial but not mandatory for application. Applicants will be at an advantage if they have worked in a range of dental settings, however the main requirement is that you are comfortable working by yourself and are able to provide accurate and safe information to patients calling with dental urgent and emergency problems. You will receive training including the software systems that we use as well as templates to follow to assist in your assessment of patients. Successful applicants go through a thorough induction process which includes ‘buddy’ shifts with experience dental triage nurses. You will be expected to cover patients from across the geography that Herts Urgent Care supplies the NHS 111/ Integrated Urgent Care services. You will be expected to work from the Home, HQ call centre base or alternate HUC base, for your shifts, expected to attend relevant meetings, including induction which will mainly be conducted from HUC HQ at the Welwyn Garden City location.
