Job overview

Are you an enthusiastic Senior Specialist Audiologist or Clinical Scientist looking to join our team. We are a community-based department that supports the whole of Dorset. We have two main hubs in Bournemouth and in Weymouth and hold clinics at other outstations across the county. This role would predominantly be based at our Bournemouth site. 

 Working as part of the Senior Adult Audiology Team within the Dorset Audiology Department, managing change, and supporting service development. Clinical responsibilities include running complex adult hearing pathways and undertaking vestibular diagnostic testing as part of the Balance Team.  Running Audiology Led ENT Clinics as part of clinical and managerial responsibilities. This would include onwards referral for imaging.

 This is an excellent opportunity for an individual wishing to develop their management and clinical skill as part of a growing service actively working towards UKAS IQIPS accreditation.  Working with the Head of Service, Clinical Leads and wider Senior Management team to facilitate quality improvement, manage aspects of the service and line manage colleagues.

Main duties of the job

You will be enthusiastic about service improvement and quality assurance, well-motivated and flexible and will provide a comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitation service for our adult and paediatric patients. Good communication and project management skills are essential, together with the skills to provide excellent patient care and make clinical decisions, BSc Hons Audiology / MSc with CCC in Audiology, or equivalent qualifications required. Higher training such as CAC /STP/ or HTS would be desirable, especially in vestibular diagnostic testing. The candidate would need experience of running autonomous vestibular assessment clinics. 

You will work as part of the Senior Adult Audiology Team within the Dorset Audiology Department, managing change, and supporting service development. Clinical responsibilities will include running complex adult hearing pathways and undertaking vestibular diagnostic testing as part of the Balance Team. You will also run Audiology Led ENT Clinics as part of their clinical and managerial responsibilities. This would include onwards referral for imaging. 

You will be required to work at our outstations at times and therefore a car driver with a full current driving license would be beneficial.

Person specification

Educational Requirements/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Audiology or MSc Audiology or BTEC National Certificate MPPM (Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement) and BAAT Parts 1 & 2.
  • Certificate to confirm clinical competence as part of their undergraduate or postgraduate studies
  • Eligible/registered with HCPC or RCCP.
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate clinical training awards such as Certificate of Clinical Competence (CAC), Higher Training Scheme (HTS), Scientists Training Program (STP)
  • Management/leadership qualification or equivalent experience.

Experience, Knowledge, skills and training

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates significant experience post BSc or MSc working as a senior Audiologist.
  • External post graduate qualification in vestibular diagnostic testing (i.e. CAC/STP/HTS module) OR at least 2 years working in the field of vestibular testing.
  • Experience of working alongside Ear, Nose and Throat and making appropriate onwards referrals. Competent in evaluating complex audiology diagnostics and patient symptoms and recognising red flags.
  • Demonstrates experience of leading service improvement projects to completion and working on quality assurance (i.e activities such as protocols/ quality checks/ audit/ IQIPS)
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to perform all basic and advanced audiological techniques in paediatric audiology assessment (6 months to 18 years).
  • Experience of working with an extended scope of practice alongside ENT. Including recommending patients for MRI/CT scans and/or running ‘Audiology First ‘ joint audiology and ENT clinics
